About Penndel, PA

A small borough in southern Bucks County, Penndel is a suburb of Philadelphia with a bright future and a rich past. Originally inhabited by the Lenape tribe, Thomas Langhorne established the first colonist settlement there. After the founding of the first post office, the town was named Attleboro and was changed to South Langhorne in the early 20th century, though this change lasted for fewer than 35 years before the contemporary name of Penndel was established. While it was a farming community throughout much of its history, Penndel developed into a suburban and commercial hub due to the introduction of the Philadelphia Reading Railroad in 1876. Today, it has a thriving industrial district that is served by a number of major businesses from the surrounding area.
